Our strategy is to deliver personalisation without jeopardising timelines or costs.”Gatto added that the semi-custom model has transformed the designer’s role. “It’s no longer a one-way process,” he said. “It’s co-authorship. The builder sets the framework, the designer defines the expression, and the client becomes part of that creative partnership.”Turning to the American market, Roberto Aboumrad of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5252" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Alpha Custom Yachts (Company)">Alpha Custom Yachts</a> noted a distinct evolution in client behaviour. “The US market has changed dramatically,” he observed. “Our buyers are younger, more hands-on, and focused on immediacy. They want yachts that integrate seamlessly into their lifestyle, not projects that demand years of attention before delivery.”Throughout the conversation, one message was clear: the distinction between custom and semi-custom is no longer defined by structure, but by philosophy. The modern superyacht industry is moving toward a more collaborative, client-centric model. One where builders, designers and owners work together from concept to completion.As De Basto summarised, “Individuality will always be at the heart of yacht design. The speakers agreed that confidence has returned to the market, particularly in the United States, where demand remains buoyant.Bill Powers noted that his brokerage has seen a marked rise in interest for larger, high-value projects, referencing a recent Dutch new-build sale as a sign of renewed optimism. “Clients are committing to more ambitious builds again,” he said. “It’s a reflection of confidence and a desire for yachts that truly stand out.”A clear trend identified by several speakers was the growing appetite among American owners for larger yachts. Brandon Kummer remarked that clients who once owned 30 to 40-metre models are now moving into the 50-metre segment and beyond. “It’s not just about prestige,” he explained. “Owners are prioritising range, onboard comfort, and superior crew accommodation and they’re increasingly looking to European shipyards to deliver that.”AJ Blackmon shared that this upscaling trend is also influencing how clients approach new-build negotiations. “We’re seeing more strategic buyers,” he observed. “They’re still motivated, but they’re asking sharper questions about value, efficiency, and long-term operating costs. Boomer Jousma discussed the continuing influence of import tariffs on European-built yachts, particularly from Italy. “They’ve added a layer of complexity,” he noted, “but they haven’t deterred serious buyers.” Meanwhile, Blackmon addressed the reintroduced 100% Bonus Depreciation measure under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. “It’s created real momentum, especially among corporate buyers,” he said, “but it needs careful handling; it's not a blanket incentive for everyone.”In South Florida, several panellists agreed that inventory levels of stock boats have risen, following years of accelerated production. Powers noted that demand in this segment is softening as clients turn towards distinctive, often fully custom designs. Jousma added that semi-custom models in the 30 to 50-metre range are seeing reduced traction: “Owners want individuality, not repetition.”Following years of volatility, the panel agreed that pricing has now stabilised. Blackmon described the environment as “balanced,” with measured negotiations and realistic valuations returning to the market.Looking ahead, the speakers identified sustainability, personalisation, and diversification as key themes for 2026. As Jousma concluded, “It’s not a slowdown; it’s a maturing market which is smarter, more discerning and more global.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377692/image/large-20458ecd8474fbd4ed316f2ff0f98c7b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377692">Owner Insight: Tim Ciasulli<ul><li>Tim Ciasulli, serial yacht owner</li></ul>Moderated by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4509" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="SuperYacht Times (Company)">SuperYacht Times’</a> Editor-in-Chief Francesca Webster, offshore racing champion and serial yacht owner Tim Ciasulli shared how his lifelong passion for performance, innovation and risk-taking continues to shape his approach to yacht ownership and design.Ciasulli, who boasts American-Italian roots, began his career as an offshore powerboat racer, achieving multiple world speed records including an APBA Class 2 record of 117.81 mph in 1984. That same competitive spirit defined his early business ventures, as he became the largest U.S. dealer for major powerboat brands such as Criss Craft, Cougar and Donzi, guided by the philosophy of “risking my life on Saturday so you can sell boats on Sunday.” His company operated under the mantra of Integrity, Passion, and Accountability, values he still applies to yacht ownership today.His entry into luxury yachting came naturally. Having grown up around boats, his father owned a yacht, Ciasulli’s transition from racing to superyachts was driven by his love of performance and his desire to innovate. He first entered the scene with Rebeca (Now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/7198" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Debra One40.8m (133'10&quot;)Benetti SpA2020">Debra One</a>), the inaugural hull of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> Oasis 40M series. Drawn to the open, beach-inspired design, he spent hours analysing the model before deciding to commission the yacht, later using her extensively for both private use and charter. During ownership, he spent around 250 days on board annually, while the yacht chartered for eight weeks per year. Her eventual resale success validated his instinct for taking design risks early.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/377691/image/large-6ada06436fd29dd67f29c853b75f3879.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/377691">Following Rebeca’s success, Ciasulli moved on to the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> Exuma 42, another first-in-series yacht created in close collaboration with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4478" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cassetta Yacht Designers (Company)">Giorgio Cassetta</a>. The project reflected his highly personalised approach to design, with a layout built entirely around how he and his family live onboard. The traditional saloon was replaced by staterooms on the main deck, while the owner’s deck combines dining, lounging, and entertaining areas into one open, flowing space what he describes as “a spacious penthouse at sea.”Ciasulli’s racing background still defines his expectations of performance. He favours fast yachts and uses them primarily in the Bahamas, where shallow waters and short island hops reward speed and manoeuvrability. His previous ownership of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB</a>110 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12736" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fifty Shades of Play33.7m (110'7&quot;)AB Yachts2024">Fifty Shades of Play</a> and his interest in the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> 88 Ultima hybrid catamaran demonstrate his evolving focus on efficiency and sustainability, even if the latter project was eventually cancelled.Transparency, he emphasised, is the cornerstone of a positive owner–yard relationship. Living just an hour from Viareggio, he remains hands-on during builds, visiting the yard regularly and working closely with the team. For him, successful ownership begins with a reliable captain who shares his values and mindset.As for the future, Ciasulli believes his ideal size lies around 40 metres, a range that balances comfort, agility, and accessibility within American marina infrastructure. The system made its debut at the 2025 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/273" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show - 2025">Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS)</a> onboard the 33.7-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB</a> 110 yacht.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354915/image/large-4f67903be311be9417c79130471a0c1c.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354915">Developed in collaboration with AI Technologies and YES Group, the platform is designed to assist both owners and crew by enabling direct interaction with the yacht’s systems. The new system is due to be made available across the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB Yachts</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> ranges from 2026.The Next AI-Integrated System allows users to manage functions such as lighting, climate, entertainment and the monitoring of technical data including fuel and water levels, energy consumption, alarms and maintenance schedules.Unlike cloud-based solutions, the Next AI-Integrated System operates entirely offline. The AI provides verifiable answers, secure commands, and deep integration with the yacht’s systems. In our development roadmap, we plan to introduce new features and services, such as always-on voice activation with a dedicated wake word, and predictive maintenance.”

With more than two decades of experience across multiple sectors of the yachting industry – including stints in China, a leadership role at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/313" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nautor Swan (Company)">Nautor Swan</a> and most recently as Chief Commercial Officer at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> – Fanizza brings with him a holistic view of the market and a sharp instinct for what drives owners today.“I was presented with many opportunities,” he reflects. “But this one was different. Next Yacht Group has an exceptional legacy – fifty years of history between <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB Yachts</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/284" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="CBI Navi (Company)">CBI Navi</a>. But most importantly, it now has an owner with a bold, clear vision and the resources to match.”It was the opportunity to shape this vision at both a commercial and strategic level that convinced Fanizza to step into the role. “Becoming CEO here means I can really influence the DNA of the company – not just sales, but brand identity, product direction and customer experience. During our initial discussions, and with my previous knowledge of the brand, I knew that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB Yachts</a> had a full – albeit niche – range, but <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> had just two models. Our first actions have been to clear the remaining stock, which we have done and to develop and launch a new range. As you know, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> unveiled the M|36 last month, with the Exuma 36 at the end of last year, alongside the new <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB Yachts</a> AB95, marking the next generation for the two brands. The plan is to roll out up to four for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/536" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maiora (Company)">Maiora</a> and two for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB</a> ahead of the summer.” &nbsp;At the same time, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB Yachts</a> will see its offering expanded, including different propulsion systems and configurations to match regional demands. “The current <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB</a> range is like a hypercar – high performance, rare and exhilarating. There’s nothing else quite like it on the market.”Rather than chasing volume, Fanizza is focused on bespoke builds and owner-centric flexibility. “We don’t want to become a 100-yachts-per-year shipyard. That would compromise what makes us special. Do you plan to approach innovation differently? “Yes – completely differently. We’re starting with how people use yachts, not how they look. Too often, designs are made in isolation from real-life usage. I’ve spent a lot of time onboard with owners, observing how they live on their yachts. What we’re working on now breaks that paradigm. We’re calling top-tier designers, but giving them a new brief: don’t start with a profile – start with the experience. When the time comes, I’ll show you what I mean.”He teases that the new product lines will challenge conventional layout logic. “I can’t reveal everything yet, but we’re working with top-tier designers under a very different brief. We’re creating a customer experience department focused entirely on personalisation. From the moment they land in Italy, everything needs to feel exceptional. We’re developing CRM tools to capture those details and ensure consistency across every touchpoint. And every client is different – you can’t treat all owners the same. Even the sales process needs to be adapted to their personality and culture.”The acquisition of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi</a> Viareggio facility in June 2024 also plays a major role in this evolution, with the company situated at the heart of the Italian yachting sector; “the Fifth Avenue of yachting” as Fanizza refers to it. The company is currently in the stage of renovating the facilities, both on the client facing side and for the production, “This facility gives us not just space, but presence,” he explains. “It allows for structured production, better logistics and a world-class experience for visiting clients. The impression this place makes in the first seven seconds of a visit? Should we expect to see an uptick in production?“We want to grow – but with purpose. The aim is to deliver a smaller number of yachts, with higher quality and more flexibility. This allows us to maintain close relationships with our clients and build exactly what they want.”Fanizza’s vision extends beyond the yacht itself. “Luxury today is about personalisation and service. You walk into a luxury boutique and they know your name, your coffee preference, your dog’s name. What markets are you focusing on?“We’re targeting three key regions – the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. Each has its own culture and will be developing separate strategies for each. Until now, the group didn’t have a proper international sales network. That’s a huge opportunity for us – especially since we’re not chasing high volumes. We only need a small number of sales to hit our targets, so we can focus on doing it right.”Another major part of the strategy has involved the team and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6468" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Next Yacht Group (Company)">Next Yacht Group</a> has announced some solid talent acquisition in recent months, such as Roy Capasso, the new head of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AB Yachts (Company)">AB Yachts</a> sales. “We’ve already brought in new talent and we’re working hard on internal communication, training and team culture. We’ve got a clear strategy: fix the product range, clarify brand messaging, elevate customer experience and expand commercially. And thanks to the team, we’re making huge strides on all fronts already.”&nbsp;Fanizza has also come into this role in a challenging period for the global economy, but it is clear that he feels <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6468" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Next Yacht Group (Company)">Next Yacht Group</a>’s size and focus will enable it to ride the wave of upcoming challenges. “The situation is unpredictable – especially with political changes – but it affects segments differently. That said, we’re prepared to adapt quickly. A mechanical engineering graduate from the Polytechnic University of Turin, he began his career with Iveco in the automotive industry before transitioning into yachting through an early position with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/358" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut Yachts (Company)">Azimut Yachts</a>. Three years later, he returned to the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6046" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Azimut-Benetti Group (Company)">Azimut Benetti Group</a>, taking up the role of Chief Commercial Officer at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti Yachts</a>.
