SuperYacht Times takes a first look onboard the 49.9-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2058" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Concept Marine (Company)">Concept</a> superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a>, which has completed an extensive rebuild at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3737" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Serenity Shipbuilders (Company)">Serenity Shipyard</a> in Antalya, Turkey. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354564/image/large-8dacd7076d4b7ad874a15038a01b9500.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354564">Originally delivered by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2058" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Concept Marine (Company)">Concept Marine</a> in 2011 under the name Grayzone, the superyacht arrived at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3737" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Serenity Shipbuilders (Company)">Serenity Shipyard</a> in 2021 for what was initially meant to be a refit. Nevertheless, the project expanded to become a comprehensive rebuild which saw the renamed <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a> stripped down to bare metal, before undergoing extensions to the stern and aft decks and benefitting from major upgrades to her flybridge. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354565/image/large-b1c07a4401fa705272edea2ab4bad601.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354565">Not only did the rebuild increase <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a>’s length from 43-metres to 49.9-metres, but it also brought her volume from 380 GT to 463 GT, leading the classification society to classify the project as the equivalent of a new-build.The rebuild’s initial concept, exterior design and naval architecture were developed by the German yacht design and engineering firm <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5966" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="iYacht GmbH Yacht design & Engineering (Company)">iYacht GmbH</a>. Striving to transform the vessel while also preserving her original character, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5966" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="iYacht GmbH Yacht design & Engineering (Company)">iYacht GmbH</a> took into account the limitations of pre-existing structures, materials and previous design decisions. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/312921/image/large-cfce4a37948cb60633db11cba098b61f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/312921">In addition to undergoing an exterior conversion, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a> underwent a full-scale interior redesign led by Hamburg-based <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7541" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Katharina Raczek Design (Company)">Katharina Raczek Design</a>, despite the initial plans for her minor aesthetic upgrades. The Hamburg-based <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/8144" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="AMS Yacht Art Advisory (Company)">AMS Yacht Art Advisory</a> worked in close collaboration with the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7541" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Katharina Raczek Design (Company)">Katharina Raczek Design</a> studio to curate the onboard artwork.&nbsp;Following the rebuild, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a> is capable of hosting as many as 10 guests across her five stateroom layout, while crew quarters have been expanded to accommodate up to nine members. The interior rebuild saw <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7541" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Katharina Raczek Design (Company)">Katharina Raczek Design</a> carry out the implementation of custom furniture and lighting design, decoration and outfitting, workshop plan approval, material selection, design project management and quality control.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354571/image/large-2e2d381e21eb440486b55b855e215ebb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354571">According to the studio, the interiors’ “simplicity is beautifully complimented by a selection of tactile, sensual materials which infuse the space with warmth and sophistication. Integrated lines of light further enhance the overall atmosphere creating a dynamic yet welcoming ambiance that feels like a personalised, apartment-style sanctuary.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354586/image/large-02347939f5a628f0295aecc0960f85fc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354586">With enlarged windows to both port and starboard, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a>’s main deck saloon displays mahogany and burr oak detailing, while a pair of commissioned bronze sculptures on shell marble pedestals flank the social hub. Moreover, sleek wooden surfaces and matt bronze finishes are married to a selection of fabrics including bouclé weaves, velvets and cashmere. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354585/image/large-20059f46e4a9e84c53b201de4899280c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354585">The main saloon also features a bespoke silk and wool carpet embellished with an abstract inksplash motif, referencing the patterns present in the dark blue camouflage cashmere, the taupe oak burr and the carved black wood for an emphasis on texture. The sky lounge is also home to a glass table and comfortable upholstery, as well as integrated linear lighting in the window cladding and a geometric light element in the bronze front of the bar. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354581/image/large-b928e74a8f4019581e4ccc47f0580540.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354581">One of the space’s highlights is the use of Forest Green leathered marble, a green stone with dark red and white veins. “Observers can almost sense the jungle from which it was born,” <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7541" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Katharina Raczek Design (Company)">Katharina Raczek Design</a> explained. “This natural essence is echoed in the room’s custom chandelier, an artpiece in its own right featuring patinated bronze trees that cradle precious ostrich eggs, reminiscent of ripe fruit.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354582/image/large-58a888ba8616e0312c4ec9de5d57a962.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354582">Located on the main deck, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a>’s open-layout owner’s suite has a colour palette composed of plum tones, green shades and pink hints across its walls and carpet, complemented by sycamore panelling, high-gloss dark taupe burr oak and sycamore accents. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354578/image/large-bbac38310cb0c337a27b7d0584407528.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354578"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354576/image/large-7a215d765272368c9a896c5082dfd846.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354576">When entering the stateroom, those onboard are greeted by a seating area comprising a dark green velvet sofa, an armchair and an ottoman. Chairs and a table are subtly placed behind the bar and coffee station, while the owner’s stateroom also benefits from a well-equipped library wall. Separated from the stateroom via double sliding doors, the wardrobe can remain either closed or open, and a large cosmetic vanity built from burr marble has a crystal light feature on the mirror. The lower deck lobby reveals a bronze light installation coupled with juxtaposing tall side tables in shell marble, while the ensuite guest staterooms display eucalyptus wall panels in soft grey, dark taupe sycamore furniture, matte wool carpets and leather accents.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354570/image/large-69129cf256066d74ad701d080a0f8835.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354570"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354569/image/large-4c53b191cbdb27c0814747e93f2ed567.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354569"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354568/image/large-24a3cc9ff2cfd91dc84c88cb30bb6b31.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354568">Moving outside, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a>’s upper deck provides alfresco entertainment in the form of a sofa arrangement, an outdoor dining table and barbecue, while a Jacuzzi accompanied by lounging areas and a bar can be found on the sundeck. Among the yacht’s exterior highlights are the extended aft bathing platform and the beach club styled with blue tones throughout the upholstery and ceramic tables beneath expansive skylights. At night, a crystal wall creates the image of a floating jellyfish as a playful reference to the nautical backdrop. Additionally, the beach club offers a pantry with a coffee bar set on cream travertine and a bathroom with a shower and changing area.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354562/image/large-dbea0dd831fa2ae6f8f4016c47c8767d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354562"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5966" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="iYacht GmbH Yacht design & Engineering (Company)">iYacht</a> conceived the vessel’s exterior layouts, while <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7541" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Katharina Raczek Design (Company)">Katharina Raczek Design</a> adorned them with loose furniture and dark taupe travertine tables piled with decorative cushions in a range of blue shades. On deck, every stainless-steel fitting and railing has been replaced, with newly installed teak refreshing the outdoor living spaces. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/354563/image/large-34db30ce5e3dc77b6a504a91b9f48dc0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/354563">Furthermore, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a> has benefitted from a series of technical upgrades, such as the renewal of her wiring and piping from bow to stern and top to bottom. In her modernised engine room there are new engines, generators and advanced bow and stern thrusters to increase manoeuvrability.&nbsp;Propulsion-wise, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a> is now powered by twin <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1441" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MAN (Company)">MAN</a> engines equipped with SCR units that meet the latest <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4531" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="International Maritime Organization (Company)">IMO</a> Tier III emissions standards for ECAs, limiting the yacht’s nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Stefan Zucker, founder of the yacht consultancy firm <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3543" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zucker & Partner Gmbh (Company)">Zucker &amp; Partner</a>, played a crucial role in the orchestration of the project by facilitating coordination between all parties. The yacht’s owner also decided to enlist the help of Dave White, who was stationed on-site at the shipyard, aiding communication and decision making throughout the process.
