How important is that to you?&nbsp;I saw the growth of the yachting industry in Mallorca from a few small fishing boats in the early 1990s to the huge yachts we have today. In recent years, my children, Maena (General Manager of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5656" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nautichandler (Company)">Nautichandler</a>) and Joan (Deputy General Manager of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/8216" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nautipaints Group (Company)">Nautipaints</a>) are already starting to be group’s driving force. I’m still the CEO, but the company now has a third generation in the business, and I feel extremely proud of that.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/380418/image/large-bf99ecbee31532cf69e84c0e21c98448.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/380418"> How are you looking to grow the business going forward?&nbsp;To increase our business, we need to target the new build sector and the idea is to have an established position in the market within the next three years by consolidating our presence on mainland Spain, in the South of France, and northern Europe.&nbsp;Over the last 20 years, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/8216" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nautipaints Group (Company)">Nautipaints</a> has completed more than 250 full refit paint projects in 13 different locations, which reflects the scale and reliability of our operations. As part of a three-year strategic plan, we aim to continue expanding all four divisions of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/8216" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nautipaints Group (Company)">Nautipaints Group</a> beyond Mallorca, while also developing our presence in the new build sector. This year, for example, we began collaborating on the construction of a 25-metre catamaran in Spain, a project that represents the direction in which we’re heading.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/380415/image/large-d70ca96b4e5c5df903de32712dc3a5b2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/380415">What is the biggest obstacle you’ve faced while growing the company?&nbsp;COVID-19, without a doubt. We were lucky because my team managed to support each other and adapt during some very difficult moments, and come out stronger on the other side. It also gave me an inspirational idea. I was sitting at home and noticed that Amazon drivers were some of the only people working, and this inspired me to develop the e-commerce side of our supply business, which today is a key part of the group: a platform with worldwide shipping, from which we have already delivered to over 70 countries.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/380416/image/large-a1e1e5cfe029a7f6879addf91b1f431a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/380416">What have been the major technological developments you’ve seen in your sector over the past 50 years? In general, we’re still working with the same products we’ve always worked with, although the quality of these have certainly improved over time. For example, primers have been developed that contain more solids to fend off corrosion. The choices available have also expanded – you can now choose from a huge array of different paint colours, for example, and we also have our own machines in-house to mix the paint ourselves.&nbsp;Another major change has been our adoption of electrostatic spray guns, which we started using around five years ago. These are a great tool because they help us to really reduce our wastage. &nbsp;A few years ago, we were hesitant about training our guys in how to use them because clients were demanding that we use conventional airspray guns instead. Now it’s the total opposite. Beyond these specific examples, our focus is on the continuous incorporation of new developments and innovations that enhance efficiency, safety, and quality across all our projects.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/371067/image/large-40d8bcc9d32f0e0a1aba45f43d96019e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/371067">Finally, what have been the most memorable or complex yacht projects you’ve worked on to date?&nbsp;The most complex was probably the tank treatments we recently did for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4795" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Black Pearl106.7m (350'1&quot;)Oceanco2018">Black Pearl</a>. We carried them out with the boat in the water, which nobody had ever attempted before. We had to strictly control the humidity and all of the environmental conditions, and passed all of the pipes through the boat itself, which was unusual. We also had to factor in the very real risk of explosion, which meant there was a lot of pressure around the project. Overall, though, it was a very successful project.&nbsp;Again, with the work we did on <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/385" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Maltese Falcon88.0m (288'9&quot;)Perini Navi2006">Maltese Falcon</a>, we were working in very complicated conditions. We completed the work in Italy in winter between November and April, so it was very rainy and windy at the time. This summer, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons International (Company)">Camper &amp; Nicholsons</a> unveiled a design studio in Viareggio, a new concept that neatly bridges brokerage, shipyard know-how and creative direction. Led by Daniela Duck, who joined in 2021 and now heads an expanded New Build Division encompassing new-build, design and refit, the move formalises a one-stop, design-to-delivery service for owners. Francesca Webster sat down with Daniela during the boat show season to find out more about how this new offering develops the client-first focus on the brokerage house.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/375488/image/large-fe288de0e6157372c2fd1db7c760dab4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/375488">“Bringing creative and technical teams under one roof smooths the process for clients and accelerates decision-making,” explains Daniela. A three-part facility, two office suites and a material lounge, anchors the offering. Here, clients can handle everything from leathers and marbles to fabrics from nearly 50 high-end partners, then see choices come alive instantly via an in-house digital configurator. “It is genuinely game-changing,” Daniela explains. “We recreate the yacht or villa in 3D, apply finishes in real time and build mood boards with the client. What once took multiple meetings and rounds of renders now happens in a single collaborative session, &nbsp;in Viareggio or remotely from anywhere.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/375452/image/large-252e21f71490c1de12b046ace6ef0f8d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/375452">A new model for brokerage The studio strengthens a heritage that stretches back almost 250 years, including the recent reacquisition of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons International (Company)">Camper &amp; Nicholsons</a> Design licence and archive. “The archive is an incredible resource; drawings, calculations, documentation dating back to the first vessels built by the shipyard,” says Daniela. “We’re absorbing the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons International (Company)">Camper</a>’s DNA to inspire fresh, pioneering interiors and exteriors, combining new materials and technology while keeping a clear family feeling.”Importantly, the model is deliberately open and non-exclusive. “We never impose design,” Daniela notes. “If an owner comes with a preferred designer, we support them, taking a more technical role through project management. There is room for everyone.” That collaborative stance extends across geographies. While Viareggio sits amid a concentration of Italian yards and artisanal ateliers, the team regularly places projects in the Netherlands, Germany and Turkey. “More than half of new-builds may be in Italy, but our network is truly international.”The division itself has expanded across sales and delivery. A dedicated new-build sales function now feeds a project management group with deep shipyard backgrounds. “Understanding yard logic is crucial,” says Daniela. “It lets us guide owners more effectively through definition, contracting and construction.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/375453/image/large-eb206ccd42c7e3d8bc9b3896245c8ac6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/375453">A faster, clearer journey for owners The configurator and material lounge are designed to de-risk and de-stress projects. “Having creative and technical minds working side by side avoids the classic gap where a beautiful idea becomes hard to implement,” Daniela explains. “With our supplier network, if a finish isn’t quite right we can source an alternative quickly – and the owner sees it live.” Every owner receives a private configurator account. For existing vessels, that extends into operations: the database becomes a practical reorder tool for glassware, linens or amenities ahead of the season. Furniture and outfitting are handled in house, from custom pieces modelled in 3D to a broad catalogue of interior and exterior loose items. “Some designers want us to take on decoration and outfitting as a sub-service,” Daniela says. “Others handle everything themselves and we focus on project management. The point is flexibility.” That flexibility spans service lines, too. Brokerage listings with highly specific interiors are presented with pre-worked refit proposals to broaden appeal, while charter clients who discover what they like onboard are graduating into tailor-made new builds. “We’re currently project-managing a full-custom yacht that grew directly from a client’s charter experience,” Daniela reveals.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/375450/image/large-4f662ff20a28d049a00188480350fa6e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/375450">From shipyard floor to owner’s brief Daniela’s <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi</a> tenure informs the division’s rigour. “I spent nearly fifteen years interfacing between yard teams and owners on truly custom builds,” she says. “That experience means we apply for the construction contract every day. We know where grey areas can hide, which clauses need defining, and we support clients alongside their maritime lawyers from pre-contract onwards.”The same pragmatism shapes yard selection. Concepts will be developed in house, interiors and, increasingly, exteriors, but always refined to the owner’s lifestyle and then matched to the best builder. “We’ll propose ideas that are inspiring yet buildable, with realistic timelines and budgets,” Daniela notes.The studio also supports residential work through <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons International (Company)">Camper &amp; Nicholsons</a>’ partnership network, with a first villa project already underway. “We’re a yachting firm, but many of our owners think in terms of lifestyle,” Daniela says. “Our decorator brings both yachting and residential insight, which keeps the offer fresh.” An ‘Argent Collection’ outfitting service covers everything from china and crystal to bed linens and bathrobes, all integrated in the configurator’s e-commerce-style environment. Viareggio’s ecosystem remains a strategic asset. “The calibre of artisans here – from furniture makers and upholsterers to Carrara stone specialists, is exceptional,” Daniela adds. “When you design a custom piece, you need partners who will execute flawlessly to the standard our clients expect.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/375451/image/large-d1596fe5c8dbf6c94aefd9e3b8f4680d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/375451">What this means for clients For owners, the gains are tangible: clearer choices, compressed timelines, fewer interfaces and a single accountable partner from brief to delivery and beyond. “We’re very flexible, we will scale the team to suit the project,” Daniela says. “Design and refit are new services that significantly boost our offer, and the configurator is something nobody else in our space has.” As for what comes next, Daniela is confident. “This is a disruptive model for our market. We believe we’ll see a strong flow of refit and new-build projects over the coming years and with the new studio we will be ready to catch the opportunities ahead.”

Their decision to acquire a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/51" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Perini Navi (Company)">Perini Navi</a> yacht stemmed from an ambition to pursue a full circumnavigation, something their previous yacht was not suited for.The path to ownership was anything but simple. “It took three years,” Ilia recalls, after spotting the yacht – then called <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/925" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Almyra II49.8m (163'5&quot;)Perini Navi2000">Ariane</a> – in a magazine. Originally confiscated by a bank, the acquisition required navigating legal and bureaucratic complexities before eventually winning her in a nail-biting online auction. A rival bidder even attempted to buy the yacht post-auction after an apparent internet glitch cost him the sale. “He offered more money,” she says, “but I told him, ‘I’m sorry. To prepare, they overhauled the yacht and, by September, committed fully to the plan. “We told our crew: we’re going. And within two months, we set off.”The refit and preparation for their long voyage were intensive but exhilarating. In a matter of months, the couple departed Greece, setting course across the Atlantic. “I did the crossing twice – once with my husband and daughter and once solo,” she explains. “And the solo return was even more magical. They called at islands from St. Barth’s down to the Grenadines, immersing themselves in cruising life. “We weren’t just passing through,” Ilia explains. “We were living it. Six months onboard, embracing the lifestyle fully.”The crossings were pivotal moments. The first transatlantic leg was shared with her husband and daughter, but the return voyage Ilia undertook solo. “Coming back alone was a revelation. It was even more magical. No responsibilities for others – just me, the yacht and the ocean. I felt free, in a way I hadn’t before.”The journey was transformative, shifting Ilia’s worldview. “As Greeks, we usually cruise in familiar waters. This was a mindset change. We decided to do something most Greeks don’t – and it was liberating.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/374505/image/large-fc6731de264849811547d621cc81cd55.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/374505">The birth of the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/323" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cyclades Cup - 2026">Cyclades Cup</a>It was during their Caribbean sojourn, while participating in their first regatta in St. Barth’s, that Ilia was struck by inspiration. “We loved the energy – racing by day, relaxing in the afternoon and sharing dinners with fascinating people. We thought, why not recreate this in Greece?”From that seed of an idea came the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/246" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cyclades Cup - 2024">Cyclades Cup</a> – a spirited, Corinthian-style event now gaining momentum in the regatta calendar. “We started with just a few calls to friends and it blossomed,” she explains. The inaugural edition welcomed twelve yachts. In its second year, that number soared to twenty-one.Now, following the latest edition, Ilia reflects with clear pride: “It was even better than I was expecting. The dream is ongoing. We had more yachts than anticipated and the most important part was seeing owners and their guests really connect, exchanging stories and building friendships. It is not always easy being both organiser and participant, but we managed to keep old friendships while making new ones.”International owners also joined, including the owners of the brand new Wally sailing yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12312" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Galma33.42m (109'8&quot;)Wally2024">Galma</a>, who were captivated by the event’s warm, owner-led spirit. “The owner took the microphone and said, ‘This has been phenomenal. I’m coming back!’ Reactions like that really show us that we are creating an event with the right soul.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/312117/image/large-3be918e86f2c11dd3a89dd03f3252dd9.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/312117">Greek hospitality at its coreThis year, the regatta expanded its community initiatives, collaborating with Cycladic Identity, part of the Museum of Cycladic Art, to preserve local heritage. “We don’t want to lose our identity as Greeks, as Cyclades, as small islands like Antiparos,” Ilia says. Operating revenues totalled €183.5 million.Shipbuilding revenues reached €172.6 million, marking a 3% increase year-on-year, which <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5565" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="The Italian Sea Group (Company)">TISG</a> attributes to the steady progress of its ongoing contracts. Meanwhile, refit revenues amounted to €10.9 million, down 52% compared to the first half of 2024, reflecting a strategic focus on shipbuilding activities during the period.EBITDA EBITDA totalled €30.4 million, a decrease of 6.3% compared to €32.4 million in the same period of 2024, with a margin of 16.3%. The modest drop in profitability reflects a higher proportion of fixed structural costs, stemming from the lower production value recorded during the period.EBITEBIT stood at €25.6 million, down 4.5% compared to €26.8 million in the same period of 2024, with a margin on revenue of 13.7%.Net ProfitThe company also reported a group net profit amounting to €12.2 million, a decline of 58% versus €36.9 million in the first half of 2024. The report noted that the previous year’s result was boosted by a capital gain from the sale of the Viareggio shipyard.BacklogAs of 30 June 2025, the total order book, which represents the gross value of existing contracts for new yachts and refit projects yet to be delivered, stood at €1.19 billion, slightly down from €1.24 billion at 31 December 2024.The net backlog, which reflects the value of contracts for yachts not yet delivered, after deducting revenues already recognised in the income statement, was €362.3 million as of 30 June 2025, compared to €433.4 million at 31 December 2024.Investments<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5565" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="The Italian Sea Group (Company)">TISG</a> has made substantial investments in recent years to further internalise several high value-added production services, including steelwork and upholstery. During the first half of 2025, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance investments totalled €1.5 million.Net Financial PositionAs of 30 June 2025, the net financial position reflected net debt of €63.2 million, compared with €12.5 million at 31 December 2024 and €33 million at 31 March 2025. This change reflects the company’s operating results for the first half of the year, the distribution of €13 million in dividends and the investments undertaken during the period.In line with IAS/IFRS accounting standards, the net financial position also factors in the present value of concession fees payable to the Port Authorities for the shipyards in Marina di Carrara and La Spezia, as well as the Viareggio carpentry site. These fees totalled €7.5 million as of 30 June 2025 and will be settled over the respective concession periods.In June, the company secured a new €115 million medium-to-long-term loan with a seven-year term. This financing was accompanied by the repayment of all major existing loans at the time, effectively extending the average debt maturity under more favourable terms and ensuring sufficient resources to capitalise on an anticipated market recovery.Outlook for 2025The opening half of the year brought heightened uncertainty previously experienced in 2024. Alongside continued geopolitical unrest, most notably the ongoing war in Ukraine and worsening conflict in the Middle East, April also saw the implementation of new protectionist trade measures by the U.S. government.Given the current order book and progress on ongoing projects, the company now expects 2025 revenue to range between €350 million and €370 million, down from the earlier forecast of €410 million to €430 million. Profitability is projected at 16.5%–17.0%, compared with the previous guidance of 17.5%–18.0%.Against the backdrop of heightened market uncertainty and shifting global dynamics, Giovanni remarked: “Activity at our shipyards remains consistent, supported by meticulous organisation and ongoing enhancements to production processes.
