Chosen by a select few owners and comprising less than 10% of the superyacht fleet, multihulls are niche products to say the least. We’ve compiled a list of some of the largest catamaran yachts in operation today.

The world’s largest catamaran yachts

What could be regarded as the most unusual superyacht in operation today is the 88 metre Asean Lady. The Singapore-based vessel features a unique design by Ian Mitchell Design based on the ‘Proa’ concept mastered by sailors in the Pacific over two thousand years ago.

 

The yacht was constructed in China at the Yantai Raffles shipyard (now Pryde) in 2004 where after she was moved to Singapore for outfitting. Her beam of 21.2 metres and large accommodation structure that connects the main hull and stabilising outrigger means Asean Lady boasts a generous volume of of 2385 Gross Tons. Inside she offers accommodation for 22 guests and 18 crew members.

In Pictures: Superyacht Asean Lady in Singapore

Fraser Yachts continues to add to its impressive fleet of yachts for sale with the arrival of the imposing 88m Illusion, by far the largest yacht ever to be built in China. Her wide beam of 15.6m will create huge volume over the six decks and create a gross tonnage of 3,500GRT. Illusion is scheduled for delivery mid-2015 and will be represented for sale by Jan Jaap Minnema, from Fraser Yachts Monaco.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/143317/image/large-473d6b72f2d6d1e335a10a06b109c0b0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/143317">Illusion is currently under construction at Raffles shipyard in Shandong province. The naval architecture was drawn up by Azure Naval Architects, responsible for the naval architecture of some of the largest yachts in the world, including Seven Seas, Alfa Nero, Cakewalk and Anastasia to name but a few. 88 Metre superyacht under construction in China for sale

Rainsford Mann Design (RMD) has announced that their 90 metre motor yacht project Illusion has begun construction at Raffles Shipyard in China. The superyacht was designed taking inspiration from the Rolls Royce motorcar as the main styling influence, which can be seen particularly in the stem bow and flowing sheer line. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/136887/image/large-d01ff66180c4e64dba661541421df886.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/136887">Rolls Royce Marine supplies all of the main engineering components for this project. RMD designed 90m superyacht Illusion commences construction at Raffles Shipyard

Inspired by J.P. Morgan’s famous Corsair fleet of yachts, Nero was built in China by Corsair Yachts for a British owner. The yacht was launched in September 2007 and handed over to her owner in December. Her maiden voyage brought her to Turkey where the last details were finished.
